Mary Lou Gantzer, PhD

In July 2023, we changed our name from AACC (short for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry) to the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). The following page was written prior to this rebranding and contains mentions of the association’s old name. It may contain other out-of-date information as well.

2011 Award for Outstanding Contributions through Service to the Profession of Clinical Chemistry

Dr. Gantzer is vice president of clinical studies at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in Newark, Del., where she is responsible for maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders and initiating clinical studies on commercial products. She has more than 30 years of experience in the diagnostics industry at Miles Laboratories, Bayer Diagnostics, Dade Behring, and now Siemens, holding leadership positions in research and development as well as clinical affairs. She began her work with AACC in the Chicago Section, which she served in many capacities, including as chair. At the national level, she rose to serve as president, along the way serving on the editorial board of Clinical Laboratory News and on four annual meeting organizing committees (including chairing the committee during AACC's 50th anniversary year). She has been on the executive committee of the Management Sciences Division and edited its newsletter for several years. She was one of the founders, and the first chair, of the Industry Division. She has also been active in several other professional organizations, serving on the board of directors and chairing several committees of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, where she is currently president-elect. She served as AACC's national representative to the IFCC, and is currently a corporate representative on the IFCC Committee on Congresses and Conferences. She is also currently a member of the advisory committee for the University of Delaware medical technology program.

2002 AACC Past-President’s Award

Mary Lou Gantzer, PhD, is the director of clinical and scientific affairs in the Chemistry/Immunochemistry Group of Dade Behring (Newark, DE). She has served the AACC in a variety of capacities in local sections, in divisions, and at the national level. As a member of the House of Delegates, she served on the Long-Range Planning Committee for 5 years, including 2 years as the chair. She served on the 1992, 1996, and 1998 annual meeting organizing committees (chair of the committee in 1998), on the editorial board of Clinical Laboratory News, and as chair of the Membership Committee. Her highly successful tenure as president was marked by a particular focus on addressing the shortage of clinical laboratory personnel. She continues to serve the Association currently as past president, as a member of the Finance Committee, as a member of the executive committee of the board of directors, and as a member of the program coordinating commission. Outside of AACC, Dr. Gantzer is a member of the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers, a member of the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards Subcommittee on Outcomes Research, and a member of the National Association of Female Executives.
