Meet the 2008 winner of the PMF Division award!-- Dr. John Sherwin
Dr. John Sherwin is the winner of the 2008 Division award for outstanding contributions to Pediatric and Maternal-Fetal Clinical Chemistry.
John obtained his PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his training in Clinical Chemistry, Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. He subsequently moved to California in 1979 and spent several years as Director of Clinical Laboratory and Toxicology Services in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, University of California Medical School, San Francisco, California. In 1997 he became Chief of Genetic Disease Laboratory for State of California, Berkeley. Currently, Dr. Sherwin is Director of Laboratory Operations, Perkin-Elmer Genetic Screening, Waltham, Massachusetts.
He has distinguished himself as an active member of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) since 1975, with memberships in the Pediatric Maternal Fetal Division and in several the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) sections. He was President of the ADLM in 2006. In addition, he has been active in the International Society for Newborn Screening and Association of Public Health Laboratories, both on the QA/QC subcommittee and in Newborn Screening and Genetics in Public Health. John is the author of several peer reviewed papers and book chapters.
Dr. Sherwin’s contributions to the Pediatric and Maternal-Fetal Division are exemplary and well deserving of this award. Congratulations!
