Siemens Buys Company Focused on Molecular Infectious Diseases Testing

Industry Playbook: March 2018

Siemens Healthineers has acquired the Luxembourg-based firm Fast Track Diagnostics (FTD), a global supplier of tests for infectious diseases. FTD’s broad range of platform-agnostic, CE-marked diagnostics will add more than 85 assays and syndromic panels to the menu of Siemens’ Versant kPCR molecular system. FTD’s tests are real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kits that target conditions such as respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, meningitis, hepatitis, infections of the immunosuppressed, tropical diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, and early childhood diseases. These tests detect more than 140 viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. “By integrating the high-quality and cost-effective solutions of Fast Track Diagnostics into our own cutting-edge molecular diagnostics portfolio, Siemens Healthineers continues to strengthen and expand its presence in the field of molecular testing and precision medicine,” said Fernando Beils, head of molecular diagnostics at Siemens Healthineers.

Through the acquisition, Siemens Healthineers will now include FTD’s sites in Luxembourg, Malta, and India, as well as its workforce of about 80 employees.
